What Kind of Personal Finance Advisor Do I Need? I know all of the titles, Accountant, CPA, Financial Advisor, Investment Broker...etc. But, I do not understand which one would be right for my situation. I really need someone like a "financial mentor" if there is such a thing. My situation: After waiting for 6 years, I have recently (yesterday) won an appeal for benefits. I wil be receiving a very large sum of money. I do NOT want to invest in real estate, or stocks, or money markets, or anything of that nature. I want to have an understanding of 1) how much should I put in a CD, 2) how much should I keep in checking/savings 3) should I purchase my leased vehicle 3) should I pay off my student loans 4) do I have to pay taxes...etc. What kind of professional would be able to help me with these questions? I have no one in my life that is responsible with money, no one I can trust to help me. Thank you kindly Other questions: Do I keep everything in one bank? What if I have a credit union and they only insure up to $100K? Can I have two separate CD's?

Any information would be very helpful. Thanks.
Is it possible to become a financial advisor through online universities? I'm considering studying for a career as a financial advisor, but at this point in life (age 26), and the fact that I am busy with a job in sales, I don't think I'll have the time to attend a university. Is it possible to mainly study for this by getting a finance degree through an online university, and if so, which would be recommended?
What do I need to know and do to become a financial advisor/analyst? I'm a junior attending a university. My major is managerial finance. I'm interested in becoming a financial advisor or analyst. Outside of my studies I play around with the stock market and have been fairly successful. I put together a project explaining the importance of retirement explaining the how to's on how to pick what's right for you: various mutual funds, ira's, etc. My teacher loved it. The kids on campus know me for making making financial talk simple and easy and "attractive." Several people have told me if I become a financial planner, advisor, analyst, they'd definitely trust me w/their money. I'm excited about having a career in that field but don't get enough guidance @ my school (career center, etc.) I'm looking for internships, but it's difficult in Mississippi (I keep trying.) I'm trying to make myself look attractive for employers. What else can I do to bring to the table to become a financial planner, advosor, analyst...and YES, I am going to graduate school!!!

What are some steps I can take to become a FINANCIAL ANAYLST/ADVISOR? I am a junior in college majoring in Banking and Finance. I am highly interested in working in investments and helping people plan for retirement. I aced a class project dealing with this and my teacher, as well as the whole class, said I found my niche. However, besides doing well in school, what are some steps or career paths I can follow to become a financial analyst. I am really passionate about helping people plan for retirement and I also see that it pays great money but you have to have 5 years of experience or more. If there are any CFOs or Financial Analyst/Advisors (and/or career counselors), I would glady take your advice and my appreciation is extended. It's usually hard for college students to find their niche. I've found mine and I want to know some good tips or paths to follow. Thank you.
Does anyone work for Edward Jones as a financial advisor? I’m currently in school majoring in Finance and getting my minor in Economics. While trying to find an entry level position with a finance company in the Tampa, FL area, I came across an opening at Edward Jones for a financial advisor. However, while reading over the job description it sounds a little like one of those “work form home, own your own business” kind of jobs. Does anyone know or happen to work at Edward Jones as a financial advisor? I don’t want to waste my time or theirs. Thank you
What are some jobs in finance (especially investing) for a shy person like me? Here's the deal. I went back to school and last spring graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BBA in finance. I tried to get an internship with an investment firm but couldn't. I do not want to move. I have held a steady job for 8+ years. I have been investing for five years but I have no work experience in investing and after talking to companies like Edward Jones, Axa Advisors, etc. I found out the entire industry basically works the same way. You are an independent rep, you have to find your own clients, and you get paid on commission. This BLOWS dead bears. I would suck at that. I am a terribly shy and introverted person. I started looking for investment positions at banks. I was told by one interviewer my degree meant nothing, would not help me get higher faster, that I had to start at the bottom (teller $8/hour) no matter what and that I would most likely never get into the investment department. I don't even know what kind of a job to look for any more.

How do I start a business as a financial advisor? I have a degree in Finance and have a job dealing with people's property tax issues. Is a finance major good with a certificate in international business? I was just wondering if that was a good combination. I am getting my Associate's Degree in Business soon. But I am interested in other cultures but love business. I wanted to be a financial advisor or a financial planner. I've also had a passion for real estate matters: real estate appraisal and leasing. Any advice? I'm getting my Bachelor's in Finance just in case anyone thought I was only getting the Associate's degree.

I need info on majoring in finance & jobs related? My friends and I are considering going to grad school for "financial engineering", from the description, its basically risk assessment plus some management skills. I know what risk is and it's definitely one of my interests. SO my question is , WHAT ELSE do they teach and train for finance majors (at the undergrad level)? Or, what jobs do they get (specific tasks)? Other than financial advising, investment consulting. What kind of training and school does one need to have to be a financial advisor for individuals? I am interested in major investment firms, and insurance, and risk, so i think financial engineering is still my thing. So are you saying a financial advisor is more of a salesman & somebody who knows the market, rather than somebody who's been in school for a few years on finance?
Employment as Investment advisor or financial planner after a business degree? If a person was to complete a business degree program in Ontario, is it possible to get into the profession immediately after graduation, or will that person have to have a junior role in a company/firm and work their way up the ladder? Is the mean salary for a person with a university degree significantly more than one with a college diploma in finance? And lastly, for current IAs and/or financial planners, is there a high turnover in the field? And are there any organizations to whom being affiliated with enhance the profession (other than CFP)?

Can a "B" student in finance make it with a top firm if he has good networking/social skills? I'm currently in my freshman year of college and I'm wondering if I can get a decent starting job at about 50k with a top firm. A reasonable expectation for me is about a 3.4 to 3.6 GPA. However, I have excellent social skills (rapport building, etc.) and I can get just about anybody I meet into my network. I am also graduating from a top 10 business school. Would it be possible to work as a financial advisor/analyst/banker for a company like Merrill Lynch? Thanks.
What job opportunities are available for someone with a Series7 & 66 license besides investment advisor? Something in the banking, lending or finance field that is either salary or salary + commision.
My husband needs you opinion, he is unhappy with current job, interested in finance and investing? He is not fresh out of college. It would be like a second career working as a financial advisor, which is what he loves to do in his spare time, but has no real experience as a salesperson. Should he make this change not knowing how much they pay at the beginning and how much he could make finding customers? I think we could cope financially if I stay at my job but I only make 1/2 of what he does.
Should I tip my financial advisor during the holidays? He has been very helpful with our finances, but it just doesn't seem to make sense.
Entry level job ideas if i want to become Financial Advisor later in career? I will be graduating from a 4 year university with a major in Finance this upcoming spring. I don't have any work experience or previous internships. I have thought about going to grad school to get my MBA but many people have said it is not as valuable until one gets work experience. So, with this being said, I am somewhat clueless as to what entry-level positions I should consider after graduation. My ultimate goal is to become a financial advisor, which I know will take many year. After at least 3 years of valid work experience, I would like to attempt to get my CFP also. This being said, I am not sure what the best first step would be as an entry-level job if these are my goals. Also, I live in the midwest now and plan to move to the south after graduating. So, I would be looking for jobs in the carolinas, georgia, or florida...if that matters at all. I know I have asked/said a lot, but I would really like to know what steps to make after graduating. Thank you.
Should I go for an MBA in finance, economics, or accounting for the best jobs? I'm looking at college majors right now and I know I want to go into the business feild, not exactly sure doing what yet, although I do know that I want to be a "big-wig." I was considering becoming a financial advisor, financial analyst, CFO, or something in that neighborhood, so which path should I take with my MBA, accounting, finance, or economics? Thank you so much!!

Finance major needs job experience while in school? Lots of people say "go work at a bank". Thats nice and all but what else can I do? I love seeing where I can put money that will help me in the future like stocks, I always budget everything and see how much I can save or will spend in the future. I was thinking about becomming a financial advisor. I am going into my second year of college if that is important.
